PFW Spring 2024 Review

ABUNDANCE. EXCESS. INTENTION… THERE ARE LAYERS HERE.

A look back at Paris Fashion Week’s Spring 2024 offering, featuring styling techniques I will be implementing into my wardrobe, and simple takeaways that I hope will inspire you.

Spring is the season of abundance, and this was echoed in Paris, late last September. From Miu Miu’s eclectic layering to Balenciaga’s excessive use of fabric, here are some of my favorite looks that made their way down the runway.

A few observations:

Unnecessary extra layers. Grab another one. Maybe one more. Chic.

Very wrinkly clothes. This has kind of always been a thing for some of us. Chic.

Full bag with stuff falling out. What’s in there? Very Chic.

Excessive items dangling from your bag. Gather all of your keychains. Genius.

Full, layered skirts. Kind of Marie Antoinette vibes. Into it.

Long hanging strips that blow in the wind as you walk. This seems to be very in right now...

A lot of extra fabric. It’s not too much. It’s good.

Sheer layers. This is all we’re going to see next year. (See NYFW Review). I’m not over it yet.

Extreme, exaggerated details. Big buttons. Huge arm cuffs. Oversized bags. All very chic.

Miu Miu, Balenciaga, The Row and Louis Vuitton brought us inspirational layering. A hoodie over a shirt over a shirt over a dress over a skirt. A sweater under a shirt under a sweater under a jacket under another jacket. We all know how to achieve a practical layered look, but I will be striving for the completely impractical, unexpected extra layer this Spring.

Are we living in the age of the wrinkle? Embrace them on your skin, and now your second skin. Y/Project, Kiko Kostadinov and Vetements show us how the intentional wrinkle can be the perfect texture for Spring. Ditch the steamer, and accumulate some creases.

Whether or not you’re a daring dresser, my hope is that this helps digest all that was Paris Fashion Week Spring 2024, preparing you to tackle your own wardrobe next Spring.
